Duck Pond

Duck Pond is a copper and zinc mine located in central Newfoundland, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of the city of Grand Falls-Windsor. The mine, which uses underground mining methods, achieved commercial production in April 2007.

Differential flotation produces copper and zinc concentrates, which are trucked to the port of St. Georges on the west coast of Newfoundland. Copper and zinc concentrates produced at the mine are sold under concentrate sales agreements to smelters in North America and overseas.

As planned in the original feasibility study, Duck Pond will transition to open pit mining in 2013 for the remainder of the mine life, currently scheduled to close in early 2015. The development plan for the Boundary Pit was approved in the first quarter of 2013 and it is anticipated that production will transition to mining a combination of both open pit and underground ores towards the end of the second quarter.
