At Teck safety is more than a priority; it is an unchanging value and an inherent part of who we are. “Everyone Going Home Safe and Healthy Every Day” is our vision and drives our commitment to continuous improvement in safety.

Safety is a core value of our company. Each of our operations face a multitude of potentially significant hazards such as high voltage electricity, operation and maintenance of heavy duty equipment and risks associated with working in large industrial mineral and metallurgical processing facilities. As such, we work hard to ensure that our employees and contractors have the necessary training and skills to recognize and manage safety hazards. We strive to be a company where “Everyone Goes Home Safe and Healthy Every Day.” Courageous Safety Leadership (CSL) is a safety philosophy which challenges existing values, beliefs and attitudes towards safety and outlines the changes required to instill a true culture of safety. CSL requires personal leadership and emotional connections to drive the change.

In 2009 our Senior Executives and General Managers all participated in a full day CSL session, designed to examine our current safety performance and culture and to determine where we could be. One year later, over 10,000 Teck employees and contractors had experienced the CSL journey. Our commitment to this company-wide safety initiative during uncertain economic times underscores the emphasis we place upon safety at Teck.
