Management Systems and Assurance

Teck utilizes four management system-driven steps to manage Environment, Health, Safety and Community (EHSC) risks. We also integrate EHSC into mainstream business processes and decision-making. The steps are:
  • Environment, Health, Safety and Community Management Standards (EHSCMS), applied to all life phases of an Operation
  • An audit and assessment process designed to improve sustainability performance by evaluating sites according to the standards, legislation and, best management practices and identifying gaps or weaknesses and determining opportunities for improvement
  • Planning, decision-making and implementation processes that link to existing business systems
  • Management review and improvement appraisals

As all steps are driven by our management systems, corporate sites are required to certify environmental management processes to ISO 14001, and in some cases OHSAS 18001, which requires rigorous external audits. Additionally, a corporate program exists to conduct internal audits of our EHSCMS and jurisdictional regulatory compliance at all sites on a three-year schedule.
