2007 Sustainability Report

Corporate Audit Program

Teck has developed a formal audit program to ensure that all sites operate in accordance with the Code of Sustainable Conduct, associated Policies and Management Standards. Audits are led by a team of certified environmental management system (EMS) professionals; upon completion, our business units are required to develop and implement action plans for each audit finding. Action plan progress is reported quarterly to CERMC. The following table lists the Operations and scope for 2007 audits.

In 2007, six sites were audited by our corporate office, with various audit objectives (environment legislation, health and safety management systems or tailings guide protocols) as indicated above. The outcomes inform management of risks and opportunities to be addressed in order to fulfill our environment, safety and social obligations (including legal and contractual obligations), as well as meet our voluntarily-imposed standards of practice and behavior as defined by the EHSC Management Standards. Audit results also highlight any material deficiencies or identified risks which may significantly impact our business reputation or financial strength from a social, safety and, environmental responsibility perspective.

The company reviews our Environment, Health, Safety and Community Management Standards at exploration projects in various countries. Both the Argentinean and Chilean exploration programs were reviewed in 2007.
